Project Serve – Anagathayata Athwalak

Service, when done together, helps us do so much more with amplified satisfaction. When the community service teams of the Rotaract Clubs of Achievers Lanka Business School and Kelaniya along with the Rotaract District 3220 joined to organize a project for Project Serve, we agreed that there were certain loopholes in the community which were seldom looked into as a project and one of them were career progress programs in the comparatively less developed regions of the country. Keeping this in mind we got to organize ‘Anagathayata Athwalak’, a workshop on entrepreneurship and career guidance for the unemployed youth of Kegalle.

After weeks of organizing, which included getting in touch with the relevant authorities in Colombo and Kegalle to distribute the application forms for the event, sorting the sent applications and the required logistics and contacting the facilitators, we saw this project happen on the 19th of November 2016.

With the help of some members of our Clubs, we were able to set the booked hall for the event up and have it ready just in time for the programs for the day to commence. The workshop began with a session conducted by Rotarian Mahanama Dodampegama where he gave a general overview of entrepreneurship and career guidance followed by a session by a representative of NAITA (National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority) on offers and programs available at NAITA.

Post lunch sessions saw Ms.Chandima Rodrigo and Ms.Ashokaa giving the attendees in-depth talks on career guidance and entrepreneurship while interacting with them and keeping their sessions not only highly informative but also interesting.

The entire program was conducted by four very informational and influential individuals who are experts in their relevant fields of work and the attendees surely benefitted from all of them to progress in their desired career paths with renewed determination and confidence.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us in making this project happening possibly; the members of our Clubs, the members of the Rotaract District 3220, the facilitators and the participants! We as a Club would also like to take this opportunity which is this blog post on the project, to appreciate the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya for maintaining the cordial relationship throughout the organizing of this project as it was what made it happen possibly; it was a pleasure to work with you!

Rashmi Jurangpathy, Co-Community Service Director 2016/17, “Through this project, I was able to make contacts with representatives of authorities in Colombo and Kegalle, which would be useful for future projects. Also, through the project not only were we able to educate the youth of Kegalle but I felt that the workshop was also useful for myself and the club members
