“Dance is the hidden language of the soul “, they say, “Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another”.

We at the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School organized our signature project FootLoose, for the third consecutive year.It was a dance workshop like no other; an evening loaded with fun and fellowship.

This project was initiated by Rtr. Rangesh Somasundaram 2 years ago, who, by thinking outside the box and channeling multicultural understanding by means of dancing, took the International Services avenue to greater heights.

The main aim of this project was to understand and enlighten participants of the different dance styles practiced around the world today, and appreciate different international cultures, prominent or not, with professional dancers who are highly skilled and experienced.

This year the project was organized by our International Services Directors – Rtr. Insiya Mamujee and Rtr. Samina Mohamedi, along with unending support from our club members. FootLoose 2017 was all about celebrating this beautiful art of dance, and it was certainly supported by the large participation we saw.

The event took place on Saturday the 25th of February, at the St. Anthony’s Church Hall, Kolpetty. The workshop was all the more special, as we had with us an internationally trained instructor, Tarja who was accompanied by her Spanish partner, Alberto.  This internationally experienced duo were well prepared to provide the crowd with a whole new dance experience, to be remembered for years to come. Doors opened for registrations and payments at 4 pm. The event commenced with Rtrs Insiya and Samina welcoming all and giving an introduction on the nature of the project.

This year, it was a different affair altogether, having on board with us two fine dancers who with their talent and experience turned around the musical ambience into one with great entertainment. Tarja De Silva and Alberto Ruiz took over and taught the crowd several steps of Ballroom dancing under Salsa, Jive and a unique style called La Rueda.

Participants and club members merrily danced away and switched partners as they did so, and savored the taste of the interesting international cultural dances present around the world. The highlight of the evening however, was when Tarja and Alberto showcased their very own special dance routine which was beautifully performed, supported by the admirable cheers of all participants.

When the event came to an end, all participants expressed their satisfaction on learning new dance routines and were glad to be a part of this one of a kind dance workshop.

We as the International Services Directors, sincerely thank Tarja and Alberto for taking their time to mentor our fellow participants, and applaud the excellent execution of the whole show. We also wish to thank all participants who attended Foot Loose 2017, and insist their presence again next year, to put up a bigger show!

Cheers!
