The Club’s Day out 2019

It was a fine Sunday Morning, on the 17th of February and the Rotaract Cub of Achievers Lanka Business School was ready to embark on its club trip. According to local tradition, we were running late but everyone finally arrived at Achievers and we were able to leave at around 8 A.M. To reduce the boredom of the journey we played some card games such as mafia and sang and listened to some quintessential trip songs. About an hour and a half and a wrong turn later we reached our destination, Hotel Sandcastle, Wadduwa.

Upon arrival and after having a welcome drink some wandered out on to the beach to play some cricket while a majority of the members lounged around the pool. Sometime later Hamdhan decided it was a good idea for everyone to do some fun games with the intention of improving communication and teamwork. Surprisingly, they were quite fun, however, as usual, things got ultra-competitive and there were a few heated arguments along the way.

By now it was approaching mid-day and instead of doing the logical thing and getting back into the shade we all agreed that the best course of action would be to play cricket under the scorching sun. So, we divided ourselves into two teams and played a friendly three-match series. Everybody got a chance to showcase their cricketing skills, existent or otherwise but most importantly everyone had a lot of fun.

All that physical exertion had whetted our appetites nicely and as a result, it was a perfect time to have lunch. After lunch, everyone was feeling a bit tired and most of the club members were stretched out on the deck chairs around the pool. Unfortunately, for all the people who were just hoping to relax for a bit Naweed and Hasitha decided that it was the ideal time to start throwing people into the pool starting with themselves and Thisura. This had sad consequences for Akila R’s(well we have two Akilas in our club, Akila K and Akila R) phone which got thrown into the pool with him as it was inside his pockets. The phone was promptly placed in some uncooked rice in an attempt to absorb the moisture.

Next up was an ultra-competitive game of water polo which resembled rugby more than it did any other sport. There was a lot of tackling and grabbing people by their limbs and various other attempts to impede their movements. A couple of exhausting hours later we moved onto more relaxed activities. Some people tested out their underwater photography while others made their way on to the beach and into the waves.

A short while afterward it was time to leave. Everybody changed and we were on our way home. On the way, we stopped at a restaurant for a farewell dinner for Aruna, the vice president of our club who was traveling abroad for his studies. It was a fitting way to go out, for one of the most hard-working members of the club.

All in all, the club trip of the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School was a wonderful day with many memorable moments and unforgettable memories, and most importantly it was a lot of fun.
